How do you handle behavior problems?
Extended Child Care's goal is for children to successfully manage their own behavior. We use a positive behavior management system. When a child is having a problem managing their own behavior, child care teachers use intervention, restriction, verbal cues, and opportunity "time outs" to help the child. We feel positive behavior management consists of the verbal, physical, and emotional support of children before, during and after they have successfully managed their own behavior. Praise, recognition, and reinforcement of good behavior are the keys.
Do you reward children for their good behavior?
Yes. As part of our policy of positive and preventative behavior management system, super tokens are awarded to children showing exceptional behavior. Super tokens are used to reinforce good deeds, helpfulness, volunteering, sportsmanship, and hard work. The center teacher writes the child's name and reason for good behavior on the super token's piece of paper, and the child then is able to go to the super token box and choose a prize to take home.
What happens if my child is ill?
Children who become sick at child care will be isolated from other children as much as possible and comforted. Parents will be called to have them picked up as soon as possible. Extended Child Care has no ability to care for sick children. It will be the child care staff who will determine when the child is too sick to stay in care.
